We have posted these helpful tips to enable you to take better care of your sheepskin products. With a little maintenance your sheepskin products will look a lot better as well as being much more durable.
As a preventative measure we recommend spraying the outwards facing skin with a water repellent and stain protector. Treated sheepskin is a lot more stain resistant than non treated sheepskin and consequently dirt will have less of a chance of sticking. We recommend the application of a Stain and Water Repellent while the item is still new and unmarked. This can form a protective layer on the skin and assist in the prevention of stains caused by water and the odd accident. It can also help prevent mildew forming. Should be re-applied every 3 months or after washing.
Using recommended cleaning techniques on your sheepskin footwear will significantly prolong the life of your investment.
Use a mild liquid household detergent in warm water (maximum 40 C / 105 F). DO NOT use soap or washing powder that contains enzymes or bleach and do not use fabric softener. After washing rinse thoroughly in warm water. Following these hints will enable you to clean your footwear thoroughly whilst keeping them looking like new. For best results we recommend hand washing.
Once washing has been completed excess water can be mopped up by placing your sheepskin footwear in a towel. Footwear should be dried naturally away from any form of heat including sunshine or wind. DO NOT under any circumstances expose your sheepskin footwear to excessive heat or direct sunlight. Examples of direct heat would include being in front of a radiator, heater, or fire. DO NOT iron sheepskin. When your sheepskin footwear has dried naturally it can be brushed with our Mi Woollies Brush to restore its soft fluffy appearance.
Suede is most easily cleaned using a soft damp cloth. Stains, dirt, or marks can be gently removed using a suede rubber. Once your suede footwear is clean and has been dried naturally a soft bristled brush can be used to gently buff the suede to restore the posture of the leather fibres. As a preventative measure we recommend spraying the outwards facing suede with a water repellent and stain protector. Treated suede is a lot more stain resistant than non treated suede and consequently dirt will have less of a chance of sticking.
